New News
  • Due to the 2 day week next week, there will not be an updated blog on November 28th.
  • Enjoy your 6 day weekend!!
  • Winter gear?  (see below)
Dear Randall Families,
In anticipation of the upcoming snowy season, we are looking for donations of any outgrown and/or extra winter gear you might have in your households for our kiddos that may not have any.  In our desire for our Raccoons to have a joyous time at recess AND remain dry after recess, we are hoping that all students who want to play in the snow are safe and bundled up.  We appreciate anything you might be able to offer.
  • Many thanks!  Randall Staff

    Oldie, but Goodies
    • Don't forget!  No School on Wednesday, November 26th-Friday, November 28th for Fall Break. And.....No School on Monday, December 1st for a teacher PD day.

    Math
    • This week we continued our work in Unit 3. This unit will be on place value and decimals.
    • We worked on how to read, write and compare decimals.  We also worked on multiplying and dividing by powers of 10. We also practiced using the standard algorithm for adding and subtracting decimals.
    • November Number Corner will focus on classifying triangles based on angles and lengths of sides.  In addition, we will include some work with coordinate grids and transformations. We will introduce and look for patterns when comparing measurements within the metric system for length. Finally, we will continue to work on Order of Operations and solving expressions.
    • December Number Corner will focus on classifying quadrilaterals based on their sides and angles.  In addition, we will be gathering data on our heights and feet lengths.  With this data we will be creating line plots and a scatter plot.
    Literacy this week
    • This week we began Module 1/Unit 3. The texts we will be using are Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan and an abridged version of  the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
    • We are will continue to work on speaking and writing about what we read.
    • This week we finished up our work on our monologues for our final presentation project.  We will present the two days before Fall Break.
    • For our ALL block this week, we engaged in various reading skill activities that include: fluency work, summarizing, discussion, grammar and vocabulary.
    • Each classroom is doing a read aloud as well!  Ask your 5th grader what book we are using.

    Science --Ecosystem Restoration(Starting Next Week!)
Our second unit will be on Modeling Matter as we answer the question:
How do organisms in an ecosystem get the matter and energy they need to grow and thrive?
    • Our first chapter will focus on :  Why aren't the jaguars and sloths growing and thriving?
    SELS/Health lessons
    •  Problem Solving
    • Being a caring communicator
    • Taking care of our bodies
    • What is in vapes?
