Forward Testing Information
Dear 5th Grade Families:
Wisconsin students in grades 3-12 will be participating in the yearly Forward Exams during March and April. The Forward Exams are required by both State and Federal ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) Law. These exams measure the knowledge and skills students should have for their grade-level. In 5th grade, students are tested in the areas of literacy and math.
Linked here is an Information for Families brochure that gives more information about the assessment. Additionally, families have access to practice tests for the exams.
Please encourage your child to do the best they can. The results of these tests will be used to help school staff make determinations regarding curriculum, placement, and services to best support students. Students’ performance on the assessment will not affect their grades.
The fifth-grade Forward Exam schedule is listed below.
Math: April 8 - 9
Literacy: April 7-9
Please make sure your child arrives at school on time on testing days.
During testing, students will not be allowed access to electronics such as iPhones, smartwatches, and Bluetooth headphones. While the tests are taken on Chromebooks, students will not be allowed access to any other sites during testing.
If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher or email me at eatwell@madison.k12.wi.us.
Thank you,
5th Grade Teachers
